An Afternoon With Miss Tilly & Bee.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Miss Tilly & Bee owner and creator, Ebony in her home last week. Miss Tilly & Bee is designed and produced by Ebony right here in Mudgee. Not to mention are her designs far from your run of the mill clothes Cotton On Kids, her homewares collection and interior styling definitely deserve to be labelled #homeinspo.
From one creative mumma to another, it was such a pleasure to spend the afternoon with Ebony, her friend Jemima and their children Tilly, Zali, Oscar, Stevie and Baby Mabel.
Tell us about Miss Tilly and Bee and yourself? Have you always had an interest in kids clothes and designing?

My sewing then evolved to making children’s clothes which are my favourite things to make as each item is unique. I love the design aspect of creating the clothes dreaming up designs and deciding which fabrics to use.

I especially love sourcing and shopping for that perfect fabric.
Who are the great loves in your life?
My little family. My husband Paul, our children Tilly, Oscar and Mabel and Sookie our cat.
Oscar, Stevie, Zali, Tilly and Baby Mabel. All the kids are dressed in Miss Tilly & Bee. |
What inspires your designs?
My kids. I love to create pieces that I would dress my own children in. Miss Tilly and Bee probably isn’t mainstream but that’s what I like.
Not a bad collection of fabrics. |
Are you originally from Mudgee? How long have you lived here?
No I’m not originally from Mudgee but from Bendigo, Victoria. We moved to Mudgee from Bathurst 3 years ago.
I also enjoy shopping for and splurging on clothes from boutique stores when I’m back in Victoria visiting family.
Your house is amazing! Where do you get your home inspo from?
I would have to say my Mum. I grew up with Mum always popping into op shops and browsing antique shops here and there.
I also stand by a piece of advice Mum told me once....”If you like it, have it” In other words who cares about fitting into a style!! I think that’s why my is taste is so eclectic and perhaps quirky. I have a mix of antique furniture, retro pieces and bits from the 50’s. Nothing that fits into a particular ‘style’.
I also love browsing magazines, Pinterest and I’m always searching for that ‘perfect, pre loved treasure’.
Before kids, what industry were you in?
I was a primary school teacher in another life.

Who would be the biggest style influence in your life and why?
Oh this is a tricky one. I don’t know if anyone really influences my style.
If I had to pick someone though probably Mum again and my sister. I love how they love the quirky and unique too.
Who is your typical Miss Tilly and Bee customer?
Miss Tilly and Bee’s clothes are a little quirky and unique, so probably someone who likes pieces that they won’t find other people’s children wearing. I also sew a lot with up cycled fabrics so maybe eco conscious people?
